Editorial Guidelines for our “News” section
1. Mission Statement
Our goal is to provide our audience with comprehensive, timely news about the crypto/blockchain and finance/tech space.
2. Core Principles
Accuracy above all else: It is better to be slightly late than wrong. Before publishing, double-check any news that may affect the price of a particular asset. In case you are writing about a coin/token that you are invested in, declare your position.
Avoiding jargon: Write clearly and concisely – using terms such as “liquidity pool” or “halving” only when defining them. Avoid using jargon.
Neutrality: No shilling. Focus reporting on market performance (up/down) and technological developments.
3. Tone and Voice
Objective: Write in third-person (i.e., using “I saw Bitcoin rise”), unless it is an interview.
Professionalism: Avoid using overly academic or unprofessional language (e.g., “rekt”, “crashed hard”, etc.) Use standard English throughout.
Calmness: Remember that crypto is a volatile market, and try not to get carried away by market fluctuations – both positive and negative. Do not use clickbait or FUD (fear of uncertainty) tactics when writing headlines or subheadings.
4. Sources
Primary sources: Project websites/social media accounts (Twitter/X/Telegram etc), on-chain data, direct interviews, and regulatory filings (SEC). Where possible, always try to use the original source (i.e., do not rely on secondary/tertiary reports).
Secondary sources: Reputable news outlets (Reuters, Bloomberg). If you are using a secondary source, make sure that it cites the original one directly.
Reporting on rumors: Do not report on rumors, unless they come from a reliable source. If you do decide to report on them, make sure that this is stated explicitly in the lede paragraph.
5. Editorial Independence
The newsroom maintains a strict firewall between editorial operations and revenue-generating activities. All sponsored content must be clearly labeled and visually distinct from independent journalism.
6. Corrections Policy
If any errors are found after publication date, they should be corrected promptly. A “Correction” notice should also be issued at the bottom of the post indicating what has been changed/retracted. Do not simply remove posts.
